The are dotted carnivores that lives in in family or groups. Hyenas may kill as many as 90% of the animals they eat. They only feed on scavenge on dead animals , if if the condition  doesn't allow them. Normally hyenas  are feared animals many animals get scared when they see hyenas. They are known to drive of large predators like lion from their kills despite them having a reputation of being coward.
The spotted hyena diverged from the stripped and brown hyenas. Among the hyenas , the spotted  stripped hyenas are known to man eaters. They have preyed on humans from per-history.
The hyenas occur in three different species , spotted brown and stripped hyena . The spotted is the largest and most common. The hyenas  mainly inhabit the Savannah grasslands, woodlands and the forest edges.

The full grown hyena can grown up to 2m long with the female  being heavier than the male going up to 82kg.

They often hunt in groups and can take down big animals such as young hippos and zebra.
Though they are known for scavenging, they are also very hardworking in searching for their meals. They could eat everything except the hard bones and horns.
They are also social animals where the larger female hyena acts as the leader.
