The lion is a deep chested cat with a short rounded reduced neck and rounded ears and a hairy tough at the end of its tail the male are quite larger than the females with weight ranging from 150 to 250 and for females ranges from 120 to 190 kg. The male lions have a prominent mane around their neck. The lions pride consists of a few adult males’ related females and cubs. They majorly do their hunting at night. The African lion is considered to be the strongest and the fiercest among all the species of the lion race. The lion is mostly used as a symbol of strength and bravery. The lion's mane is the most recognizable feature of the species. It starts growing when lions are about a year old. Mane color
varies and darkens with age; research shows its color and size are influenced by environmental factors such as average ambient temperature. Mane length apparently signals fighting success in male–male relationships; darker-manned individuals may have longer reproductive lives and higher offspring survival, although they suffer in the hottest months of the year. The presence, absence, color and size of the mane are associated with genetic precondition. The lion has a predominant brown color but though there are also white lions. They have occasionally been encounter in Kruger national park in South Africa. Lions spend much of their time resting. They spent about 18 hours a day .they spent an average of two hours a day hunting and about 50 min eating. The lion is the most social of all wild cat species living in groups of related individuals with their offspring’s .the females form a stable social unit in a pride and they don’t tolerate the outside females. Membership only changes with the births and deaths of lionesses. Both the males and the females defend their pride against intruders but the male’s lions the male lions are better suited for this action. Young lions below 5 months do not participate in hunting until they are almost one year old and begin to hunt effectively at the age of two. Single lions are capable of bringing down a prey twice their size such as the zebra and the wildbeest.lions hunting in a group are normally succeessfull.lionesses do most of the hunting .the asiantic lion really differ from African lion in terms pride composition and hunting .when hunting, lions usually avoid large animals like full grown animals such as the elephants and buffaloes because it’s dangerous .normally the prefer average animals such as impalas and antelopes unless they are in a group.
The lions attack is short and powerful they attempt to catch the prey with the first rush and final leap. And usually kill the prey by strangulation. Although lions have no natural predators but they die violently from attacks from humans and other lions.
